Ronald McDonald House Charities’ Sid Katz House in Medical Center was selected for a $100,000 renovation after the building was damaged during the 2021 winter storm that left thousands in San Antonio without power and water, according to a news release. The nonprofit supports families of children battling a terminal illness or life-threatening injury by providing meals and lodging near the hospital area while receiving treatment or other medical care.
The designer with whose eye has helped make ‘Queer Eye’ a success is leading the redesign of the Ronald McDonald House in Medical Center.

The project at 4803 Sid Katz will kick off this summer, and the concept and design will be led by design expert and Emmy-nominated Queer Eye star Bobby Berk. The project will renovate and repair three outdoor spaces and exterior entrance to the home. The project will be completed by the end of 2022.
“Supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities’ San Antonio team that keeps families and children together during tough times, that’s what community impact – and Lowe’s Hometowns – is all about,” Berk said in the news release.
Berk is coming off a season of Queer Eye that took place in Austin, where they helped another nonprofit, The Other Ones, which provides support to the city’s houseless community like housing, case management and low barrier employment opportunities. The Fab 5 team not only renovated the founder’s home, Berk also renovated the office space in Austin.
